I generally don’t like to classify myself as one particular artist or another. I really want the ability to expand. Instead of “thinking outside the box”, I tend to ask “what box?”. I think artists who practice enough, get to the point where they want to discover their own voice. Expressive intuitive painting may not be “for you”. You may not even like the style. But, consider this. Do you have your favorite crutches – you know…. the Cerulean Blues, the Green Gold’s?……We all do! The beauty of this style of painting is, it is the MOST right brained form of painting you could consider. No recipes, no diversions, no second guessing…. you just dive right in and do what your heart FEELS like doing.
From this experience, you discover freedom – you find a new way of placing paint on the canvas, you reach for different colors and you are unafraid to take risks.
Risk taking underpins great art, and it underpins one’s meaning of being alive (to some degree…I don’t advocate extreme sports, or behavior, but you get the drift!).
How do you take risks with your paintings/art?
